Be Ready For The Picking
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”
Strawberries, watermelon, oranges, and grapes, oh my! There is something about a delicious ripe, sweet fruit! The right fruit will make your mouth water. The key is finding the right fruit; picking through all the rotten ones, the ones that are split open by either the roughness of the handler or while in transit. If you really want that fruit, you will sit there and turn over and move until the right one catches your eye. But before any fruit can make it to the grocery, its growing and maturing on the tree. Likewise, in our spiritual life we are maturing, we are growing, we are maintaining the “fruit” that is instilled in us as the holy spirit.
We must be careful not damage our fruit – which is our love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Like any fruit on a tree growing, a damaged fruit can’t be used, it can’t be picked. It must be ready for the picker – the master’s use. God can’t use us if we don’t: show love, we allow the enemy to steal our joy, we sow discord, we don’t want to go through anything (because that’s our testimony, there is nothing good about our attitude, we are not faithful, we are not gentle or kind, and we have no self-control. The picker, the master will pick who is ready; who continues to maintain their “fruit”. Hence, the word didn’t say fruits of the spirit with an “s”, but he said fruit, meaning singular. This lets me know there is one holy spirit. We should always maintain God’s spirit (fruit) . Fruit is special; it is sensitive and easy to bruise. Take care of it! Like any fruit you bring home, you guard it against sodas, meats, and detergent. Why? Because, it can easily damage it. So, you put it in the front seat to protect it. Likewise, protect God’s spirit. Don’t let anything taint your fruit as evidenced in Gal 5:19. Don’t let nothing ruin, destroy, or infect your fruit. Grow, mature, and be still in God so that when its your time, you will be ready for the picking! We can’t be used rotten!
Father God, we need you. Lord if there is anything in me that isn’t like you, isn’t holy God we ask that you remove it now. O God, help us to always maintain our fruit. Lord we want to be ripe for your picking, for your use Lord. Lord don’t pass us by; we need you in this hour. Help us when we fall short, strengthen us where we are weak. In Jesus name I pray, Amen
